<ul> <li>The most convenient way to charge an EV is to use a home wall box. Most EV drivers tend to charge overnight (when most electric vehicle tariffs are cheaper) enabling a full charge to be ready for their commute the next day.</li> <li>The installation of the wall box will depend on the position of your home fuse box or meter, and in some cases groundworks may be required for installation.</li> <li>Most UK homes have single-phased power, which means a 7kW wall box can be installed. Some larger homes with three-phase power may be able to host a higher-powered 22kW unit.</li> <li>Audi's recommended supplier for installing a home wall box is Ohme.</li> </ul>

This is from the order being placed and you providing Ohme the necessary and correct information needed for the EVHS grant application as well as the remote survey, otherwise the process may be delayed. Non-standard installs (approximately 10% of installs are non-standard) take longer. This is because in some cases groundworks and additional upgrades may be required.</li> <li>On the day of installation, Ohme allocates 2 to 3 hours for standard installations. If for some reason Ohme can’t complete on the day – for example, because the installation has unexpected extra works or the install that was originally assumed from the remote survey is a more complex non-standard install – then Ohme will provide a revised no-obligation quotation (valid for 90 days) and, if accepted, will reschedule an installation date.</li> </ul>
<ul> <li>A standard installation depends on various factors, including the age and condition of the existing home wiring, and the location of the nearest electricity point/meter. Approximately 90% of installations qualify for a standard installation.</li> </ul>

<ul> <li>A home wall box can charge an EV faster than a 3-pin plug. Charging speed will be dependent on the home charging unit purchased and the vehicle’s capabilities as well as other factors such as outside temperature.</li> <li>A 7kW home wall box charges an electric vehicle overnight. For example, an Q8 e-tron from empty to full can be charged in about 14 to 18 hours and provides around 18 miles of range per hour of charge. <ul> <li>Yes, if they use a Type 2 plug. This is the most common plug connector type in Europe and is what Audi and most European manufacturers use. However, some brands use a Type 1 plug connector – check your owner's manual for details - and so the home charging point may not be suitable for these cars. If you are unsure, we recommend you contact your home charging provider. Some providers like our partner Ohme offer a universal socket.</li> </ul>
<ul> <li>You can charge using a 3-pin household socket and the Audi Compact Charging System (which comes with the car). However, the charging time will be very slow and is not as efficient as having a home wall box installed. You should contact an electrician before plugging into a domestic socket for the first time as:<br>i. Suitability for charging using a domestic socket will depend on the condition of the wiring in your home<br>ii. If the domestic socket is on the same circuit as other appliances, particularly those in frequent use, the additional amperage may be enough to trip a breaker switch<br>iii. Establishing a separate circuit for charging will help make sure the car is fed a full night of uninterrupted current. We recommend using an electric vehicle home wall box with its own separate circuit<br></li> <li>Audi recommends you keep the Compact Charging System in the vehicle in case of an emergency or temporary need to plug in to a 3-pin socket whilst away from home.
